Somewhere right now, a seller is a few minutes out from a first call with a new prospect. They’ve never spoken to this account. They’re on the company’s About page, cross-referencing LinkedIn profiles, trying to shape a point of view they can walk in with.That moment is where AI agents in sales must earn their place. Most of what’s said about agents right now is impressive in theory, but vague in practice — nowhere near that seller’s actual reality.The way past that is by moving away from general conversations about agents and starting to talk about specific ones for sellers. Talking with our sales team yesterday, a recurring theme was the experience they’re having with sellers using “summarise” functions in AI tools. Especially the one‑click, buttonised versions baked into  platforms. On paper, these are great for speed as sellers don’t have to type notes, they just hit “Summarise” and move on.The pattern we’re seeing, though, is that a lot of nuance gets lost. When a seller presses a generic summarise button, they’re usually not adding any context about the opportunity, stakeholder dynamics, methodology (MEDDICC, SPIN, etc.), or what “good” looks like in their environment. Unsurprisingly, we end up with summaries that are fast but shallow.From an enablement perspective, that creates some interesting challenges: If sellers and managers start operating primarily off AI summaries, any distortion in those summaries becomes a second‑order enablement problem as coaching is based on partial reality, pipeline reviews miss key context, and training content calibra

I remember pre-ChatGPT when everyone complained that sales teams had too many tools. Now, with AI, almost anyone can create another sales tool with a sentence and a prompt.That’s useful for ideation, but it feels like we may have gone from one extreme to the other. The question isn’t whether a tool can be built anymore. It’s whether people will maintain it, trust it, and remember where to find it when they need it.I think we’ll eventually return to having a central platform for the seller, with specialized capabilities available inside it rather than spread across numerous standalone tools.That’s one of the opportunities I see for Showpad: sellers can stay in a familiar environment while accessing more specialized workflows, including value articulation and business-case development.The tools will keep getting easier to build. The real value will come from making them part of a coherent, trusted seller workflow.

Our team recently asked marketing leaders about their experiences with sales and marketing messaging misalignment. Every leader was aware of the prevalence of the misalignment, but unable to effect change. Leaders expressed frustration that messaging misalignment continued to happen again and again, and at their inability to show ROI for marketing efforts. In our research, we found that much of the established advice for marketing leaders about alignment suggests focusing on shared goals and KPIs, lead quality and handoff, and better communication between teams. While important, that advice misses a key component of sales and marketing alignment: consistent and compelling messaging. Digging deeper to the causes of this messaging misalignment, we discovered five underlying challenges for marketing teams:The sales team doesn’t understand marketing’s messaging so they can’t confidently deliver it.  The sales team is not bought in on the messaging and doesn’t believe it will help them succ
